Notes for Authors |

The Journal of Medical Science
and Research is a biannual publication with the aim
to encourage, promote and increase knowledge in wide
field of Medical Science through publication of original
articles, review articles and case reports.

Aims and Scope |
The Journal of Medical Science
and Research is the official journal of Holy Family
Red Crescent Medical College. |
| |
Acceptance |
The acceptance criteria for all
papers are the quality and originality of the research
and its significance to our readership. In the journal
manuscripts are peer reviewed by two anonymous reviewers.
The Editorial Board reserves the right to refuse any
material for publications. |

Submission of manuscripts |
All articles submitted to the journal
must comply with these instructions. Failure to do so
will result in return of the manuscript and possible
delay in publication. |

Covering Letter |
Papers are accepted for publication
in the journal on the understanding that the content
has not been published or submitted for publication
elsewhere. This must be stated in the covering letter.
The covering letter must contain an acknowledgement
that all authors are in agreement with content of the
manuscript. |

Submission |
The original manuscript and three
copies should be submitted to Editor-in-Chief, Journal
of Medical Science and Research. |

in MS-word format] |
| |
Preparation of the manuscript |
Manuscript should be prepared in
modified Vancouver style following uniform manuscript
writing method. The length of the article (underling
reference, tables and appendices etc.) should not exceed
5000 words. Submission should be printed, double spaced,
on one side only of A4 paper. The top, bottom and side
should be 30 mm. Laser print is essential. |

Parts of the Manuscript |
Manuscript should be presented in the following order
i) Title page
ii) Abstract and key words
iii) Text
iv) Acknowledgements
v) References
vi) Appendices
vii) Tables – each table completed with title
and foot note
viii) Figures |

Title page |
The page should contain
· Title of the paper
· Full names of each author with Institutional
affiliation
· Name and address of the institute where the
work was done
· The full postal and email address, plus fax
and telephone number at which correspondence is desired.

Abstract and key words |
1) All articles must have a structured
abstract
2) It should not exceed 200 words and should state the
purpose, basic procedures, main finding and principles
conclusions of the study |

Text |
Authors should use subheadings
to divide the section of their manuscript : Introduction,
Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion. |

Materials and Methods |
It should include the setting of
the study the subjects (number and type) the treatment
or intervention and the type of statistical analysis. |

Result |
The results should include the
outcome of the study and the statistical significance
· Each table should be typed in a separate page
· Figures should be drawn professionally in black
and white
· X-ray or slide should be photographed in glossy
paper in black and white
· Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively
in numerical order. |

Acknowledgement |
The source of financial grants
and other funding should be acknowledged. The contribution
of the colleagues or institutions should also be acknowledged. |

References |
The Vancouver system of reference
should be used. In the text, reference should be cited
using superscript Arabic numerical in the order in which
they appear. The references should be numbered and listed
in order of appearance in the text. Reference to unpublished
data and personal communication should not appear in
the list but should be cited in the text only (e.g Smith
A, 2000, unpublished data). |

Appendices |
These should be placed at the end
of the paper, numbered in Roman numerical and referred
in the text. |
| |
Tables |
Tables should be self contained
and complement, but not duplicate information contained
in the text. Each table should be presented on a separate
sheet of A4 paper with a comprehensive but concise legend
above the table. Tables should be double-spaced and
vertical lines should not be used to separate columns.
Column headings should be brief, with units of measurement
in parenthesis. |

Figures |
All illustrations (line drawing
photographs) are classified as figures. Figures should
be cited in consecutive order in the text. Figures should
be sized to fit within the column (78 mm), intermediate
(120 mm) or full text width (164 mm). Line figures should
be supplied as sharp, black and white graphs or diagrams.
Photographs should be supplied as sharp, glossy, black
and white photographic prints and must be unmounted.

Manuscript on disk |
Authors are required to provide
then manuscripts on disk (MS word file in CD). Authors
should supply their accepted paper as formatted text.
It is essential that the hard ware and the word processing
package are specified on the disk (e.g. IBM, World 2000
or Mac, word 5.1), as well as the first author’s
surname, the journal title and the manuscript number. |
