Impact of Field Practice in Community Medicine on Students Knowledge and Attitude Towards Health Problems and Health Needs in the Rural Community

Abstract

Rural educational experience through field practice In Community Medicine may change students' perceptions about rural practice issues and their understanding about nerd upbringing. In medical colleges of this canny. third and f011ith year suntans hove to undergo field sae training under the leadership of the department of Coinnamity Medicine to get evposure to Me community with a view to get oriented to Me health problems and health needs of the commonly as well as to change attitude and out among die fourth year medical students of Comnumity Based Medical College. Mymensingh with the objectives to determine whether the field practice in community medicine can let the =dents know about the common health problems in rural community. makes them mulerstand the causes andflavors of those health problems. the knowledge ulna obtained coo help them to mitigate the heoldrproblems prevailing in the rural community. the experiences gathered change students' likelihood of doing turd practice ceer graduation. and if the students gender and background are reload to the likelihood of doing rural murk, after graduation. A 5-point Liken scale /MY used. It was found that through the field practice in community medicine. the students had increased their knowledge about the common health problems in the conummity (mean Liken score 148 ) and about the causes of those health problems (rnem store 3.44). They felt that knowledge gonad through the field practice would help Mon to 'nit/gate the health problems in the turd community (mean score 3.701 and they had an increased likelihood of doing practice in rural areas after gradmnion (mean score 3.19) Intention of rural practicewas higher among the male students (mean score 3.32)than the female students although it was not significant Paean score 3.04. p0.05k However, rural bxkground students were more interested to do turd mother after graduatiOn mean score 3.871 than their urban backpround counterparts (mean score 3.08). 77ns diffemnee was statistically significant (pd.OS). Students' urban background was found to hare negative correlation with their h,rend00 of rand practice (correlation coefficient .0,220 p The students also feh very much comfortable ht doing fieldpraedee (mean score 3.70).
