There is a higher incidence in femaless " and they are more common in the Far East than in population of Western European origin'. The presentation is often vague and nonspecific. impeding prompt diagnosis. However. the diagnosis is facilitated by modem imaging techniques. and may be made at any time from the antenatal period to adult life. While some aspects of optimal management have been resolved. others remain controversial. The more severe complications of bileduet cyst disease include pancreatitis. cholangitis. biliary cirrhosis, and cholangiocaminoma. This review considers the literature on bileduct cysts. concentrating panicularly on current issues in management of the disease.
